The Chamber Orchestra at St Paul's with the Choir of St Paul's Cathedral, September
Following last year's sell-out collaborative concert, The Chamber Orchestra at St Paul's once again joined June Nixon and the Choir and organists of the Cathedral on Thursday September 16th for a " Mostly Mozart" concert.
The program included Mozart's Overture to Marriage of Figaro, his Symphony no. 34 and the Piano Concerto no. 23 K 488, with soloist, Lachlan Redd. The orchestra also joined the choir for Mozart's Missa Brevis in D and Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.
All works were performed with great spirit, drawing a wonderful reception from the large audience. Lachlan played brilliantly in the concerto, the orchestral playing was both brilliant and warm in the rarely-performed, yet beautiful, three-movement Symphony no. 34 and the Choir sang with great heart. Incidentally, there had been a very good article on the Choir and its 120 year history in the Melbourne Age newspaper just the day before.
Personally, I always love performing in the Cathedral. The acoustics and the atmosphere seem to inspire all performers in their work. I very much look forward to our next concert there.
