Eye of the Tiger! Valcea Television video review
Copy the whole link below to Valcea Television for a 5 minute video review of the Eye of the Tiger! program and the Muzica Pentru Toti concept:
Muzica celor mai bune filme - Valcea 1 - Televiziunea de Valcea
The Eye of the Tiger! program was very well received by the audience, players and management of the Valcea Filarmonica. The orchestra's own concert hall in the historic Filarmonica building is undergoing major renovation so current concerts are being held in the main hall of the Anton Pann Theatre. On a wet night outside, we managed to have the large audience clapping and cheering with everything from the really warm and rich full-orchestra sound of the Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera selections, through the bright jazz of Anything Goes and the heavy rock beat of Eye of the Tiger and Going the Distance, to the American pop-culture of Grease (with a little Mozart, Grieg and Grainger thrown in for good measure).
As for last year's Muzica Pentru Toti tour, extra players were brought in again from Craiova, Sibiu and Bucharest. Many of these scores are difficult to play and it was a pleasure (and fun) to work hard with the players to set the detail that's so important in these broadly-based cross-over programs. It seems that the audiences and players are keen to keep this series of bright cross-over concerts going in the future.
Michael Woods especially thanks Filarmonica Director: Mihail Stefanescu and Chief Conductor: Florin Totan for their invitation for him to return.
