Christmas with The Chamber Orchestra at St Paul's, Melbourne Recital Centre
Following nine successful (sold-out) concerts in Leipzig and Berlin over the last Christmas/New Year period, Michael Woods directed The Chamber Orchestra at St Paul's in three concerts at Melbourne Recital Centre on Friday December 17th, Monday December 20th and Tuesday December 21st.
The program had the title Christmas with the Orchestra at St Paul's and featured international soloists, Derek Jones (flute) and Delyth Stafford (harp). The program included Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no.3 and Air from Suite no. 3, Corelli's Christmas Concerto, Mozart's brilliant concerto for flute and harp and Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings.
All three of these Melbourne concerts were totally sold -out! The orchestra (with guest-leader Robert John) played brilliantly. The acoustics in the beautiful Salon allowed every note and every bit of passion to be heard and felt in every seat. The audiences gave considerable ovation - not only to the soloists after the flute and harp concerto - but especially to the full orchestra after the Tchaikovsky Serenade. Following this success, it is hoped that the orchestra may give further special performances in Melbourne Recital Centre.
