Bijutreii Muzicalle (Musical Jewels), Bucharest and Giurgiu
It was great to arrive in Bucharest and to be taken straight from the airport to the Hall of Romanian Radio and Television to rehearse for these Musical Jewels concerts! I was very happy to work with these players from the Enescu Filarmonic, the Romanian Radio Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Romanian National Opera. From Bucharest, we then travelled down to Giurgiu on the Danube to perform for Orchestra Simfonica 'Valahia' Giurgiu .
The audiences loved the Tangos (Libertango and Scent of a Woman), the Shostakovich Waltz, the beautiful Moricone film music and the local flavour of Dinicu's Hora Stacatto and the Brahms Hungarian Dance. The brilliant flute playing of Catalin Opritoiu in the Vivaldi and Bach pieces was a real highlight for everybody.
From conversations later with the management of the theatre and Giurgiu city officials, it seems that they were very pleased with the Muzica Pentru Toti concept of involving the audience very much in the performance. I look forward to further opportunities to work with these great players.
